Trump Announces US-Iran Deal Reached; Strait of Hormuz Reopened
US President Donald Trump posted on social media on the 14th that the US-Iran deal is "now completed" and that the Strait of Hormuz will be reopened.
Trump stated that he has officially approved the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz with no tolls required, and ordered the immediate lifting of the US Navy's maritime blockade on Iranian ports.
As of now, the details of the US-Iran agreement have not been released.
According to a report by the US Wall Street Journal, Trump said in an interview with the newspaper earlier that day that the agreement will be signed electronically by himself or US Vice President Vance. In addition to the immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, it includes Iran's commitment not to acquire nuclear weapons. Trump stated that the United States is not in a hurry to obtain nuclear materials from Iran, "I don't think we need to rush in the next month or two."
During the interview, Trump also said that the US-Iran deal will not provide funds to Iran, but may involve the lifting of sanctions against Iran. "We will see how they perform."
Trump again criticized Israel's airstrikes on Lebanon earlier that morning, but claimed that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu supports the agreement.
